History
The course sits on just over 11 acres on what used to be an old rice plantation from the mid 1800s. Hole 18 basket sits within the ruins of that old plantation house. The row of oaks as you enter the park lined the old driveway of the plantation house. The property was scheduled to be sold for development and all of the 200+ old oaks were to be cut down. Locals objected and the land was donated to Sumter County. The park had some big plans. Electricity, plumbing and sewage were all built into the site but money ran out and for years the park sat as a place for people to dump trash and other illegal activities. The Sumter City Disc Golf Club had upgraded the baskets at Dillon Park and asked if we could put the old Salients baskets at Live Oak. It was approved in the Spring of 2021 and those baskets have now been upgraded as well. This park has been kept alive by so many volunteers. Lets keep it going.
