Description
Parnell Prairie Preserve was opened in 2010 as a cooperative park between the Village and Township of Somerset. Purpose was to reclaim the area, once used as a local dump, into an opportunity for the public to enjoy “…a vista of color and texture…rustic trail system…and some benches at strategic points to sit and enjoy…” In 2023, Somerset Township reached out to Somerset Disc Golf to better utilize the property and offer more options to the ever-growing local community. After walking the 50+ acre property and realizing the plethora of fauna tucked among the rolling hills – this was an opportunity one could not pass up to grow the sport. Keeping to the edges of the property and utilizing areas overtaken by evasive plants, SDG aims to maintain the original purpose set with minimal impact to existing amenities while allowing a new demographic to enjoy it. Over the next three years, through the dedication of volunteers and financial support of Somerset Township, we hope to provide a championship level disc golf course. Each hole will have multiple tee pad locations and basket locations so the course will be challenging, yet enjoyable, for all skill levels.
