Salt Lake Valley's Championship level course, with an option for beginners and families. Rule the skies.
Description
The Arena Disc Golf Course
Welcome to The Arena, where Utah’s native birds guide you through 54 acres of high desert battleground at the foot of the Oquirrh Mountains.
This isn’t just another disc golf course – it’s West Jordan’s championship-caliber test of skill, strategy, and survival.
⸻
Choose Your Challenge
The Arena offers three distinct configurations, all sharing the dramatic opening “Hawk’s Descent” before diverging into their own adventures:
• Red Layout (Par 54, ~7,500 feet): Turn LEFT after Hole 1 for a unique beginner-friendly routing that weaves through the property with special rules and forgiving distances. Perfect for families and newcomers ready to earn their wings.
• Blue Layout (Par 62, ~9,200 feet): The advanced amateur’s proving ground, sharing the Gold footprint but with merciful tee positions for those not quite ready for the full championship experience.
• Gold Layout (Par 61, ~10,000 feet): The ultimate test. Where professionals come to be humbled and local legends are born. Bring water, wear proper footwear, and prepare for battle.
⸻
Wildlife Meets Strategy
Each hole celebrates a Utah native bird whose behavior mirrors the strategic challenge ahead. Begin with the Ferruginous Hawk’s dramatic 64-foot dive on “Hawk’s Descent.” Navigate the Turkey Vulture’s spiraling doom on “Death Spiral.” Sprint through the quail’s triple-mando gauntlet on “Covey Run.” By the time you reach the Peregrine Falcon’s 200-mph finishing strike on “The Stoop,” you’ll have experienced nature’s full arsenal.
⸻
Signature Moments
• Hole 11 “Coot’s Bluff”: Stand atop the bluff for panoramic views of the entire Salt Lake Valley and Wasatch Front – if you can focus on the scenery instead of the 544-foot downhill bomber ahead.
• Hole 16 “Royal Plunge”: The kingfisher’s dive from the property’s highest point. One epic canyon crossing. No room for error.
• Hole 6 “Rooster’s Revenge”: A 970-foot uphill marathon that separates champions from everyone else. The rooster always gets his revenge.
⸻
Desert Rules & Respect
We protect our desert. Cactus relief is mandatory with no penalty – help preserve these plants by stacking rocks at their base. Red layout players have right-of-way (they move fast and need to “hop off” shared holes quickly). When your disc lands beyond blue stakes on certain holes, proceed to the drop zone – it’s for your own safety.
⸻
Come Prepared
This is high desert disc golf at its finest. No water fountains. No restrooms. Minimal shade. Maximum challenge. Prepare for a 3 hour round.
Two parking areas serve Holes 1 and 3. The abandoned Kennecott rail line marks your western boundary, while sweeping valley views remind you how far you’ve climbed – or fallen.

The course was the brain child of Mayor Dirk Burton, along with Scott Belchak of ElevateUT Disc Golf.
The course was state funded with Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant Office funding. West Jordan hired JDS Construction and Phillip Romney to design and install the course.
The tee-signs and kiosk were designed by FlyDesign Studio https://www.fly-design-studio.com/
