I feel that this course is emblematic of the city of Ionia itself. It's as if a very dedicated person was very excited about disc golf and was able to convince a few other people to donate money. There was obviously a lot of thought put into the shot design and the basket placements. However here is what happens in Ionia. The person who was very excited eventually finds that the support they had dwindles over time due to pessimism and apathy because they're the only one who cares. After this, they grow frustrated, disillusionment sets in and they move on to a different town or a different job. After that person leaves no one else is there to care and it just goes to pot.

This course is very rustic, with no real set fairways—it honestly feels like baskets and carpet pads were just dropped in the woods and left at that. Many holes are overgrown with thorns and undergrowth, and it’s often hard to tell where the basket is or even what line you’re supposed to throw. There’s clearly been little to no maintenance done for quite some time. That said, the thick tree canopy keeps the undergrowth from being overwhelming, so losing discs isn’t really a concern. There’s also some genuinely nice elevation change and a few fun, creative shots sprinkled throughout. With some dedicated upkeep and a group of people who care, this place could really shine and become a great course again.
