For a local course in Russell County, it's better than nothing, and the signage is actually pretty nice for the area. The poles are adequate - they are MVP BlackOut Lite baskets which have recently been painted blue. The course layout itself is not great, but I understand they used as much of the small park as they could, and I can respect that. Could it have been done a bit better, maybe relying on direct switchbacks instead of backtracking to tee points? Sure, but it is such a small course with an ACTIVE water hazard (the Clinch River) that prioritizing RHBH throws near the water is probably intentional to reduce the cha ce of lost discs. I will say, my biggest complaint was the lack of tee pads. Sure, the course is intertwined with the rest of the park, but re-adjusting the course layout to allow for better tees would really help the overall course quality. Overall, I give it a solid 3.5; I am local to the area and options for good courses usually require driving 45+ minutes, so having ANYTHING in Russell County VA is a plus. For near-term improvements, I would highly suggest a layout redesign, better tee points / installation of actual tee pads, and higher quality goal baskets.

I’ll be playing this course because it’s close but it has issues. Basket 4 is completely gone (We shoot for basket 2 from the 4 tee). There are no signs for basket 5 or 7. Good place to go practice.
