October 2025 Update
Progress on the course continues to move steadily forward! All of the permanent tee pads in the short positions are installed, and with all yellow baskets in place, we now have two full 18-hole layouts ready for play. Digital scorecards reflect the current basket placements, and nine-hole loops are available for those looking for shorter rounds.
Behind the scenes, we've been hard at work thinning rough in key areas to improve playability and flow. Bridge construction is also underway to ensure smoother access throughout the course. We've begun clearing fairways for the long tee positions, laying the groundwork for future Advanced and Professional-level layouts.
Using data from UDisc rounds, we're also refining individual hole designs to better match how players are actually experiencing the course—thanks to everyone contributing scores and feedback!
Our monthly doubles events continue to grow in popularity, and we’re incredibly grateful for the ongoing local support and enthusiasm. Your involvement is helping shape something special.
Next up: With short tees complete, we’ll continue developing the long tee infrastructure, refining layouts, and improving course navigation
Thank you for being a part of this journey!

What?
Heavy and Fancy DGC is an 18 hole, par 68 disc golf course on 38 wooded acres in Warren County, North Carolina, near Lake Gaston.
Who?
Heavy & Fancy DGC is the passion project of Mike Heydlauf and Troy Hottle. Mike bought the land in March of 2023 and Troy designed the layout. Since then they've spent nearly every weekend sweating, cursing, and spending on the property, alongside a group of amazing volunteers from the Oxford Disc Golf club and local disc golf friends.
Why call it "Heavy & Fancy"?
When first exploring the property we found a rusted-out, old tin sign advertising "Heavy & Fancy Groceries". We figured the description makes about as much sense for a disc golf course as it does for a grocery store, so why not?
Access?
Heavy and Fancy is open to the public and free to play. Recommended donation of $5/round or $10/day will help continue to expand the layouts and add new amenities (please see our website for more information).
Entry?
The driveway enters on the Flemming Mill Road side of the intersection with Eaton Ferry Road. The practice green is on the west side of the powerline right-of-way in a grove of cedars. Hole #1 tees are set back and to the left of the entrance to the practice green.

History
Heavy & Fancy is a relatively new but ambitious disc golf project in Warren County, North Carolina, located near Lake Gaston and situated on 38 wooded acres.
The course is the passion project of Mike Heydlauf and Troy Hottle, both longtime disc golf enthusiasts. Mike acquired the property in March 2023, and Troy led the design of the layout and they both spearhead ongoing development.
From its earliest days, the team and a dedicated cadre of volunteers — including members of the Oxford Disc Golf Club and local disc-golfing friends — have spent countless weekends clearing, shaping, building, and refining the course.
