The name of this course is misleading. When I see the name of a 9-hole course as Hippie Point, Shame on me for assuming this would be a casual, low stress walk thru the woods with my discs. This track was far from that idea. Seeing hole 1 with a pine tree on top of it should’ve been my sign to return another time. But. I did plan a small vacation to come to Toledo Bend partly because of the newly added courses. So I had to capitalize on my time out here. Initial thoughts on the course. I notice grass was kinda tall. Which is a stressors for somebody who is not fimiliar with the course, terrain, potential wildlife, etc. I’m really glad I didn’t bring any kids with me. It would’ve been a nightmare trying to find their shot/keep them out of harms way. I realize some storms have came thru the area that last 6-weeks or so. I understand crews have not been out there to clear debris. *PLZ keep that in mind if thinking about heading out to HP* lots of down debris that is somewhat difficult to traverse.* Also noticed about half of the baskets are placed close to the edge of cliffs. Why? Overthrowing or missing putts will lead to lost discs. I’d advise bringing some discs you are OK with losing. Going down these cliffs to retrieve discs could be detrimental. Also with all the undergrowth and downed debris, it was difficult to track shots. Even for myself. And I’d consider my self to be a seasoned DGer, playing since ‘05, and it was a challenge for me to track my shot. Obv. if the grass was cut and the debris cleared my overall thoughts would’ve been more positive. As is, I was a bit underwhelmed and annoyed with the layout as such. Felt like with the amount of space and the cost to install a course on that land, I would have hoped the course designer would have something more family friendly, less brutal hole placements, and holes with more fun shot selection. Defined fairways. Seemed like this track lacked character. I don’t get it. It could be a solid track to compliment the 18 hole down the street. Wish it were more user friendly. I will be back. In a few years once the course is broke in a bit. On a positive note. All of the tee pads are solid. Signage looked good and is placed in a safe spot around the tee. I wish more signage would be around to show other holes on the courses easier. Or directional signs to help guide throwers. Hole 2 had a mando to help keep players away from the camp site. Again. With all the land, why was it necessary to design some holes so close to those camp sites? Just my .02
