About the course

Sitting at 6,000 feet, in the cool shade of the ponderosa pines, this course offers a true mountain-style experience, just minutes from Silver City. Designed as a tight and technical layout, the course rewards accuracy and shot shaping, with narrow fairways, elevation changes, defined gaps, and a variety of angles that challenge both backhand and forehand players. Please park at entrance of the Little Walnut Picnic area and carefully cross Little Walnut Road to hole 1, until further notice from the Forest Service. Caution: a crosswalk is yet to be installed and cars drive fast up and down Little Walnut Road. Built by Students of Aldo Leopold Charter School (YCC Trails Crew) and members of Silver City Disc Golf Club. Special thanks to Gila Hike and Bike, Gila National Forest Service and ALCS.

History

Course history - Several locations were considered around Silver City for building a wooded DG course. The site located near Little Walnut Picnic area was chosen for its tall ponderosa pine trees, ample parking, nearby bathrooms and drinking water. The site is 5 miles from Silver City and was recently masticated making the area, underneath the pine’s canopy, open and park-like. The site is located within the Gila National Forest and required a permit for construction by the Gila National Forest Service. Funding for material and labor was procured by the director of Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) at Aldo Leopold Charter School (ALCS) through a YCC grant. The baskets were furnished at cost by Gila Hike and Bike. The course was build by Students of ALCS’s YCC Trails Crew and members of the Silver City Disc Golf Club. The course was built during the Student’s Fall Semester of 2025.

Already my favorite course in Silver! So glad for the wooded aspect. Wonderful, technical shots across ravines and some downhill fun, great elevation changes. Love the vision and labor effort from the local commnity with such pride. Nearby amenities are a bonus.
