About the course
Course is accessed by a 2km walk out to the island which closes at dark, so allow time (with at least 20mins to get back at end) to both walk and play.
Plenty of parking spots at the beginning of the boardwalk, so no need to park on the highway curb.
There is a donation box to keep the island, boardwalk and birdlife healthy, so donate a dollar or two here to keep it going.
Be cautious of pedestrians and tourists on the island and take care to have a spotter on a few of the blind holes. It is also easy to lose a disc in the wetland reeds so take that into consideration when throwing on a few of the adjacent holes to wetlands. In summer, where the grass is a bit longer it may be necessary to beware of snakes, however this is not a problem in winter.
Targets are predominantly trees, but there are a couple of stump targets to keep things exciting. A brief outline of the holes is as follows:
1. As you reach solid ground on the island, the tee is on your left. Aim for the large umbrella tree above the path on the hill.
2. Walk up the path a few metres and you'll tee off from between the two smallish trees on either side. There is a large oak tree with a plough in it which is the target.
3. Tee off from just in front of the oak. Aim for just over the hill on the right, where there is a large tree again being the target. Use a spotter here as tourists are common.
4. Take off on grass a few metres left of tree and aim for the stump down the hill (just right of path), near the top of the stairs to the loo.
5. Walk down behind the toilet block and along the path right into the trees. About 10-15m in there is an arched tree which is the tee. Aim through corridor to spidery shaped tree.
6. Continue past the old shed and tee is on the right at the end of it (just prior to meeting another path). Aim through paddock to back left. Target is just right of hidden boardwalk at some small trees.
7. BEWARE of losing disc in reeds! Tee off at end of boardwalk back across paddock and aim rightish. The tree is the bigger one at the intersection of the paths.
8. Tee off right of BBQ shed. Aim up the hill to a stump which is just before the track on the hill.
9. Step left onto the track and tee off from here. Best line of attack is to aim for the caged well in the ground initially then throw to the standalone tall/thin tree part way up the hill.
A fun way to kick off disc golf in Launceston, and hopefully the first of many courses! Enjoy!
