About the course
The Forks located in Las Soleras Park at 4680 Rail Runner Rd is a “be your own course designer” safari-style disc golf property; there is no one correct way to play this course!
Multiple baskets can be seen from each of the seven concrete tee boxes. Tee boxes are labeled with letters A-G and the baskets are numbered 1-8. At first glance, there are at least 56 different holes to enjoy on this 7.5 acre property.
Because of the unique nature of this facility, players should follow The Golden Rule: “I will not throw towards or over pedestrians or other players.”
Special Rules to Follow at The Forks
1. Pedestrians Always have the right of way.
2. Everyone plays at their own risk. Keep your head on a swivel.
3. If players are present at a basket, choose a different basket to throw towards.
4. Avoid blind shots whenever possible.
5. If you choose a blind shot to a basket, please send a spotter to assure safety.
History
A collaboration between the City of Santa Fe Parks Department, the developers of the Las Soleras Subdivision, and Ryan Flahive led to the creation of this unique 7.5-acre disc golf facility at Las Soleras Park. The project officially began in 2021, with the procurement of equipment from Dynamic Discs in 2024 marking a major milestone.
The site is characterized by high desert scrubland, featuring juniper, chamisa, and other native flora. Given the terrain and the limited footprint, it became clear that a traditional course design would be neither practical nor engaging. Instead, the concept of a “choose your own adventure” course emerged—a creative response to both the space and the environment.
While “safari golf” in small, multi-use parks isn’t new, it’s often considered risky for other players and pedestrians. To address this, we designed the Las Soleras course as an intentional safari layout with 56 playable holes that can be combined in countless ways. Five “Caution: Flying Discs” signs are placed throughout the park to alert other users, and all players are expected to follow the Golden Rule: “I will not throw over or toward pedestrians or other players.”
After six months of contracted work to pour concrete tee pads and install basket sleeves and signage, the remaining equipment was installed on Sunday, October 26th—completing a project that reimagines what a safe, flexible, and community-oriented disc golf space can be.
