About the course

This is not a beginner friendly course. There are tight fairways, tight landing areas, and in most cases placement Is needed. The course is a mix of open and wooded holes as the course flows up and down the hills along side the Spokane River. Many of the holes have either 2 teepads and/or 2 baskets giving it a variety of shots as all basket positions will have a permanent basket. The short-to-short layout is just under 5000 feet and the long-to-long is over 6400 feet. All of it technical. All of the "ponds" are dry ponds unless there has been rain. The dry ponds are all played as a hazard unless otherwise noted on the teesign, unless there is water. If there is water then standard OB rules come into play. There is a GOLD layout. That layout all swales are played as standard OB. The only exception are the ones behind long 16. Those still go to the dropzone. This is a beautiful location where you can see bald eagles flying overhead and deer and other creatures are often seen running about. Mostly cart friendly albeit holes 6 through 8 will test that.

History

In about 2017 Spokane chose Downriver as a place to put in the Storm Water Drainage ponds. After quite a bit of negotiation the city agreed to putting in a new course as part of the construction. It took 7 years but in 2024 the new course , Whitewater, was opened. This was both a redesign in parts of the course and a brand new design in others.

One of the best courses I’ve ever played. Challenging but fair.

Course has beautiful signage and excellent tea pads. Front nine is really enjoyable NW golf. Back 9 is a little less enjoyable but the course designers did a good job making all of the challenging.
