About the course

Well-mowed course with gradual slope, many young and midsize trees. Water hazards on a few holes. SandVenture Aquatic Park, splashpad, athletic parks, and shelters co-located within the park. Park is currently undergoing significant updates with waterpark and an updated disc golf course layout. New DISCatcher® Pro 28 baskets installed 12-August-2024. New concrete tees (longs layouts) installed summer of 2024. Additional short teepads and updated signage pending installation. Course remains available to play throughout the update. Disc Golf Course Update Summary: City of Shakopee staff have been partnering with avid disc golf players to create an improvement proposal for the existing disc golf course at Lions Park. The goal of the course redesign is to provide a unique, enhanced playing experience with more variety of hole design. Some of the improvements include: Integrating more variety of hole lengths Adding more challenging and nuanced components and hazards to holes Incorporating Mandos on select holes Redesigning the holes that are displaced by the new building at SandVenture Aquatic Park Mitigating tree health issues Improving path crossings for a safer pedestrian experience Using space more effectively in the south portion of the park More details found here: https://engage.shakopeemn.gov/lions-park-disc-golf-course

I dig the new layout; it’s a little better than before. This course will never be a 5 star course you travel to, but for the Shakopee area, it is perfectly fine. My favorite additions are the long 350+ par 3s. They add a much needed challenge that was once easy, short, par 4s. Once new signage is in and old tees and signs are removed, it will be a great Twin Cities course. It would be very confusing to a beginner right now.

A course redesign done right. Keeps elements of the old design but improves the areas that needed it. Holes have a good amount of difficulty with a good amount of trees. Course has a really good flow. Course gets very busy with disc golfers and non-disc golfers.
