Honestly a pleasant surprise of a course, but with a few notable issues. First, the state park is really well maintained with a nice little camp shop, playgrounds, cabins, and other features. The course designer did well to recognize that when you have this much woods and elevation, holes do not need to be super long to be challenging and rewarding. No 350' tight wooded tunnel shots here. That does not mean the course is easy, though for someone with moderate skill it is scorable. As noted, lots of vertical hike, with some steep descents that can be slick. Also the par 4s offer a nice change of pace but are pretty challenging to bird. Currently Udisc rating of 4.3 is about right, with the gravel pads holding the course back from anything higher. I know pouring concrete is work, but do it right! The pads are also on the small side but full power run up is seldom needed. Overall the lines are fair and throwback but can be punishing on some downhill or cross-valley shots. Hole 8 is too tight a dog leg and too steep a green to be a reasonable hole, and in a few years the pines on 16 will make it unthrowable. Also, hole 17 is sign listed as 404', but I lazered it at 280'. Special kudos to the bathrooms: I played in December and they were heated, clean, and stocked. Definitely a course worth playing; also plan for zero cell service!

Beautiful course! Challenging with wonderful scenery, lots of risk-reward decisions, up and down and all around a lovely creek
