Panthorn Park weaves a challenging 18 holes through the woods of Southington, CT. Panthorn features two layouts: white and red. The white layout tests your skills and demands every shot in your bag. Shape lines through tight gaps, narrow fairways, and an abundance of trees. The red layout is a shorter, more accessible layout that cuts down on distance but keeps the spirit of the original white layout. Founded in 2005 Panthorn is one of the oldest active courses in Connecticut. While once in rough shape, it has seen a rebirth in recent years. I think this is a good approachable course that’s perfect for mixed skill levels. Almost every hole has two tees so if you can choose the difficulty and since it’s pretty flat you’re not dealing with frustrations from elevation if you’re new. I played shorts as that was the one UDisc said was most popular, but I kinda wish I’d played longs. It felt like most ever hole really required just a dead straight shot with a tight gap in front of the tee, but long tees seemed to have some more interesting shapes. Next time I’m in the area I’ll try longs. Course is well maintained and tee signage is great.
