About the Course
70 acre hardwood forest surrounded by our 30-acre Christmas Tree farm in a lightly-populated (17,500) mountain county of NC. Secluded. Our tee-pads are not the best, but reflect the minimal amount of traffic that makes it to our farm. Short pads on over half of the holes. We will be upgrading them in 2022. Functional. The course features an amazing array of natural features which are incorporated into the course. Boulders, cliffs or ledges impact nearly every hole and often come into play via basket locations and/or elevated tee pads. Euphoric. The course was designed to follow the contour of Sugar Mountain, with elevation normally gained from basket to next tee pad. Consequently, there are very few uphill shots. Fun. The course is tightly-wooded with precarious basket locations. Challenging. DIRECTIONS: Please review and compare with your map app!!!! From Hwy 181 between Newland and Linville, turn onto Sugar Mountain #1 Road. Go seven tenths of a mile and take the driveway up on your right with the 664 sign. ALERT: The road sign for Sugar Mountain #1 and Sugar Mountain #2 have been absconded. Sugar #1 also has a red sign for a florist and a white sign for a church.

"This course is absolutely insane. Especially if you’re doing the 30 holes it’s a hell of a hike. Definitely the craziest and coolest course I have ever played. A lot of the holes are tight with lots of trees and pretty difficult but it’s a beautiful property. Will definitely be back!"

"Absolutely beautiful mountain course, gorgeous scenery. Excellent course design, not your typical "all straight up, all straight down" mountain holes. Tough, but accessable fairways, with very cool pin locations. You can tell thousands of man-hours have been put into this course with beautiful hand-crafted wooden and stone teepads, benches, etc. throughout the course. Rich and Jeri are great people and have put together an incredible layout. Can't wait to get back to it! "
